Prepare For Closing Day

Closing day typically flies by in a blur. If you're buying a home, you'll be doing so many things at the same time it will be difficult to keep it all straight.

Start by making a list. You'll need to shut off the utilities at your current home, and open accounts for telephone, cable, electricity, gas, sewer, and perhaps garbage pick-up at your new residence.

If you're moving into a condo or co-op, you may need to reserve your move-in time weeks in advance.

Hiring movers, saving boxes and newspaper, buying tape and actually packing up is another long-term project. Unless you live as sparely as a monk, don't try to save packing for the last day.

If you're planning to move the same day you close, try to schedule your closing for first thing in the morning. Otherwise, you could be moving into the wee hours of the next morning.
